What does your urine color and smell indicate?




Urine is known as natural health indicator, in a way that state your health condition maybe you are healthy, not !!

Urine is define as a liquid waste product secreted by the kidney, and the process called "urination" or micturition through the urethra.In other words, it a way of getting rid of excess liquid by-product, getting rid of unwanted substance in the body know as urination.

As said earlier, urine is a natural indicator that reveals factor regarding one's health condition and each signs are vary depending on what you consume, like the food and drinks you take in.

Study on urine coloration: Urine get yellow color from pigment called "urochrome". And the color varies depending on your urine coloration from pale yellow to deep Amber.
Eating carrot can give it an orange hue, taking in some medications especially "oral medications" can turn your urine color from fluorescent green to blue.
Also vitamin can make your pee turn and appears as bright yellow color and disease called porphyria can cause it to appear in Port wine color.
Fruit and food like, favabeans, strawberry e.t.c.

What does the odor says regarding to your health?
Your pee odor says much about your health i.e  if you are in healthy condition, your pee won't have strong smell, but if it's does, then check out yourself to know what it's really mean or seek for medical advice.
And your pee can also have strong smell when you consume alcohol, tuna fish, coffee, onion, saffron e.t.c, and are not fully broken down by the body system.


  1. Foul-smell: This occurs due to bacterial.
  2. Sweet-smell: This is generally known to everyone, if your pee has sweet smell , it means you are suffering from uncontrollable diabetes due to much excess consumption of sugar.
  3. Chlymydia: Due to presence of sexual transmitted disease.


Note: What you eat and drink can change your pee odour and color.

Now let's move to what does the color say's :


  • Milky or white: It's is advisable to visit doctor as fast as possible, because anything can cause this, probably caused by unbalanced of body minerals in the system, and can also be as a result of bacterial infection.
  • Transparent or colourless: When you pee appears transparently or colorless then you are save, it means you drink alot of water.
  • Red(blood urination): Commonly referred to as Hematoria.
  • Red color could be the sign of infections like kidney stone, mercury poisoning, or urinary infection.
  • Blue: It's a sign of metabolic disorder, caused by certain drugs and food dyes. The metabolic disorder are called Blue diaper syndrome.
  • Pale: Shows you are healthy, of course well-hydrated.
  • Dark yellow: It could be that you are not well hydrated as much as needed.
  • Green (leafy green): Asparagus or sparrow grass is one the few, that can turn your pee into green color.
  • Amber: This could be caused taking diuretic drug that forces the body to get rid of water in the body  and could  also be sign of dehydration, medically it's advisable to drink at least 4 litres of water daily.
  • Light orange: Caused by high consumption of vitamin, especially vitB , sometime shows sign of dehydration and sometime associated with bile duct and liver problem in most cases.
  • Dark brown: The could means you have jaundice, gilbert syndrome or even rhabdomyolysis affecting your body system.
